Bobcat Boys Looking for Revenge in Playoffs and A Shot at the State Championship
Richmond Bobcat Boys started the year on a hot streak starting the season out 5-0. Now half way through the regular season the Richmond Boys are 5-1-1 only losing to last years state champs Waynflete Academy and tying Saint Dominic Academy.
Last year Richmond Bobcats got knocked off in the semi-finals against North Yarmouth Academy 2-1. For the years before the Bobcats have had a rivalry with North Yarmouth Academy getting knocked off year after year. This year, however, the Bobcats have broken that streak beating NYA 1-0 on August 8th.
Richmond is 2-5 against NYA since 2019. On September 28th the Bobcats played NYA and lost 0-3 at NYA’s home field on turf. Defensively the Bobcats struggled keeping the ball out of the box. Offensively the Bobcats also struggled as they couldn’t seem to get anything going.
Assistant Coach Joe Viselli had a couple opinions on the offensive side of the ball saying
“We didn’t do a good job of connecting on passes to spread them out so, a lot of the time when we were getting the ball we were under pressure.”
On the defensive end starting sweeper back Isacc Soule had a few words about the problems there saying
“Initially our issues were that Coach switched our defense for this game and we don’t play that formation”
Coach Viselli added,
“I think as a coaching staff we were slow to counteract their game plan and it didn’t get changed until half time and I think that if we would have mixed it up a little earlier we probably would have had a better chance.”
The Bobcats will end up having to play NYA again at some point in the playoffs but they are ready to bring it back at the Panthers hard next time they match up.
