The Befores of the Homecoming Bonfire
Homcoming celebrations for Richmond High School are really beginning to pick up before the festivities for the weekend. Things kick off with a bonfire Friday night. The bonfire is from 6:30 to 8:30 pm and features many different events ranging from live music to a cornhole tournament! Community members and students at both the middle and high school are invited to the bonfire. Homecoming games are Saturday morning, and the dance itself Saturday night.
We asked many people about what they are looking forward to about the homecoming bonfire. Multiple people were excited for the same things about the bonfire, for example; the bonfire itself, face painting by Matana Slocum and Lauren Roinestad, and spending time with their friends. We even talked to some of the staff. Ms McFarland exclaimed her favorite part about the bonfire
“I'm excited to watch things burn.”
We talked to the Dean of Students Jonathan Spear about how he feels about the homecoming bonfire. He expressed in a joking manner that he was excited about
“when it's over”
and of course what he really was ecstatic about was the live music and the fire. This is one of our first bonfires in the past years, especially to this degree. Covid slowed homecoming celebrations down a lot. The school got to see a bonfire last year but did not have the live music or cornhole, two events that are sure to make an impression on the community and those in attendance. We hope everyone enjoys their time at the bonfire and has a ton of fun this homecoming weekend!
